Training

Ngarda has developed and maintains a competency-based skills training program that complies with nationally accredited standards.

We ensure that each employee is competent to perform in his or her current position, and training is provided to bridge any skills gap.

Our training initiatives include;

BHP Billiton – Purarrka Indigenous Mining Academy

The Purarrka Indigenous Mining Academy was formed in partnership with BHP Billiton Iron Ore. This unprecedented relationship is a unique and mutually beneficial contract that enables the partners to maintain an entry-level employment and training program for Indigenous people.

The Academy commenced in 2008 and is run in conjunction with the Yarrie mine operations as a 5-year project with up to 60 trainees a year.

It is a purpose-built training school targeting local Indigenous people who have previously had limited access to education and employment opportunities. PIMA’s training approach takes this into account.

The Academy’s primary objective is to improve the lives of Indigenous Australians through access to world class, fully accredited training and education that results in real employment outcomes.

The training program gives participants the opportunity to experience employment in the mining industry and life in a remote mining camp. Since it opened, 50 Indigenous men and women have successfully graduated from the Academy.
